1st Annual of Iranian Contemporary Art- Persbook's Finalists 2010

About Persbook 1st Annual Contest- 2010

Persbook is the first artistic contest in the cyber social network community, Facebook, and owes itself to the honest and dedicated friends who believe that “Culture can be transmitted and expanded through General Media”.

The definition of “General Media” in the contemporary era is too abstract that cannot be limited to the merely visual, script, or any other form of media. Media has brought forward a great ability of transmitting the information and processes, such that seemed to be illusionary and obscure in a few years ago.

The formation of Iranian Contemporary Art Group and holding the first Persbook internet competition afterwards, aims o show the non-profit aspect of the union from the cultural society. In the future, as for the perspective of Persbook, we consider identifying and announcing young talents and consequently there shall be more and various opportunities for professional tasks for artists in Iran.

Regretfully, the unskillful and unprofessional ways that the government glances upon the culture, the uncertain and messy situations of the artistic society at the time, and the many deficiencies that exist in managing and organizing the individual-centered institutes, all have accumulated and resulted in the stillness, dullness and lassitude of our culture. Under such circumstances, internet as a media can create an easy and precious access. This opportunity has stayed safe from the many taints, current classifications and greedy eyes.

Above other fields, the young generation of visual artists seeks its future in this cyber route. We wish to thank the earnest artists and colleagues and everyone who helped us in our way, especially we offer our sincere appreciations to the permanent executive of Persbook, Mr. Edward Lucy Smith, for all his humble assistances.

Considering the vast variety of the works and contents and performances in this section, the competition was “technique and title free”, and at the final round, works will be classified in eleven different groups: Painting, Photography, Drawing, Illustration, Graphic, Sculpturing, Video-Art, Installation, Environmental Art, Performance and Body Art. Besides, through the way we realized that we are limited in one other aspect and have a lot of deficiencies for the resources of Art information in Iran; hence, along with the “the Annual” we tend to establish and collect a bank of artistic information. We hope that the galleries, collectors and all who love art and care for it help us, by any mean they can.

Persbook’s Jury:

The first round was judged by: Agnes Kohlmeyer, Annegret Soltau, Edward Lucie- Smith, Ahmad Nadalian, Ahmad Kiarostami, and Simin Dehqani

The last round was judged by: Agnes Kohlmeyer, Annegret Soltau, and Edward Lucie- Smith
